I was at the hospice yesterday sitting in the kitchen having a coffee with the volunteers while the nurses cleaned up my mom. I found out that some people had stolen the hospice’s standby generator. In truth I didn’t think it would be possible given the size & the fact it was wired into the building. It had a large locked fence around it as well. They only noticed it missing when they called someone to do the “standard maintenance” for it.
It would have taken:
- at least 4 people
- a person with electrical knowledge to disconnect it from the building
- a large truck
- knowledge that it was there
The hospice is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with people coming & going in the kitchen. The standby generator & parking lot is located outside of the kitchen.
It is scary to think that there are people in this world who don’t care that in taking the standby generator they could have killed 8 people in the building if the power went out due to the oxygen machines going down.
