Loving the Government

I sent them an email asking for some help.  What a lovely answer I got in return 🙂  Oops, none of the links worked.  I found & fixed what I could and deleted the rest.

Information and advice to farmers on practically all aspects of farming, including production, marketing and farm business management, are mainly the focus of the provincial ministries of agriculture. They are the main point of contact for anyone wanting to start a farming operation. Please contact your local agriculture office for additional information. You can access the website of your provincial ministry of agriculture at http://www.agr.gc.ca/eng/about-us/partners-and-agencies/?id=1360701203481. Also, our webpage “I am looking for information about starting a farm” provides links to contact information in the various provinces and other relevant information such as links to guides to starting a new farm business.  You may also find “Getting Established: Programs and Tools” a useful site.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) has recently launched a new section on its website which provides, in one central location, access to information on tools, programs and services available to young and beginning farmers to help them get established and manage a successful farming operation. The website is available at: http:www.agr.gc.ca/youngfarmers

Although there is no grant available for starting a farm business, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) offers the Canadian Agricultural Loans Act (CALA) program, a financial loan guarantee program that gives beginning and existing farmers easier access to credit. Farmers can use these loans to establish, improve, and develop farms; while Agricultural co-operatives may also access loans to process, distribute, or market the products of farming. For more information, please visit http://www.agr.gc.ca/eng/?id=1288035482429, call 1-888-346-2511.

Farm Credit Canada (FCC), a federal Crown corporation, also has a variety of loan products available specifically for beginning farmers. For information on their products, please visit the Producer Financing section on FCC’s website at http://www.fcc-fac.ca/en/Products/Lending/lending_e.asp

General information on AAFC’s programs and services can be found on the departmental website or to view programs and services specific to your province, click on the Region link and select your province on the map.

Growing Forward 2 represents a $3 billion investment over five years in strategic initiatives for innovation, competitiveness and market development, in addition to a full and comprehensive suite of business risk management programs that will continue to help farmers withstand severe market volatility and disasters. Investments in the three priority areas are critical to facilitating the sector’s expansion and leveraging of provincial-territorial and industry investments to increase productivity, growth and jobs. For more information on Growing Forward 2, please visit www.agr.gc.ca/GrowingForward2.

The Canadian Farm Business Management Council also has a section on its website which offers farm business planning advice. It is available at http://www.fmc-gac.com/home

I trust this information will be helpful to you.
